SJBS Middle School Scholars bring home 11 National Latin Awards
Each March, our middle-school scholars take the National Latin Exam (NLE), joining 100,000+ other Latin students across the world. The NLE assesses knowledge of grammar, comprehension, mythology, derivatives, literature, Roman life, history, geography, and Latin in use in the modern world. There are separate exams for different levels of Latin, and students in each level are awarded medals (gold and silver), ribbons ,and certificates for high achievement.
Our scholars always perform well on the NLE, but this year's results were particularly impressive. Bosco students achieved a staggering 11 awards, including seven gold or silver medals, the two highest awards on the exam.10 seventh and eighth graders took a more advanced level of the exam. On this more difficult test, Bosco scholars performed a full 10 percentage points above the national average, with our highest scorers achieving 23 percentage points above the national average, and five students received "Maxima Cum Laude" silver medals.
Optime factum, discipuli!
